The GAN K is the confluence of two Pinarello traditions. One is that of the GAN, the other that of the cobblestone bikes, the Kobh, Rokh, and Raza K. The GAN take the shapes and geometries of the top-shelf Pinarello’s and build them out of T600 carbon-fiber. The K’s make room for larger tires and build in greater comfort. And, of course, the GAN K features disc brake.
Geometry tells what the bike is made to do. The GAN K has a steep seat angle, shallow head angle and generous fork rake. The steep seat helps put you in a racing position relative to the bottom bracket, while the head angle and 47mm of fork rake, and 373mm fork length give you slower steering and better shock absorption for better tracking on rough roads. The 415mm chain stays make room for 28mm wide tires, or smaller tires and fenders (mounts are molded into the fork legs and rear dropouts).
The ride is further tuned by Pinarello’s extensive shaping. The chain stays have been flattened in the vertical plane for better vertical compliance, and aero seat stays keep you going fast. Likewise, the K bikes get bigger bottom bracket drop, 72mm on most sizes, than the Dogma K’s. There is still extensive aero shaping, with Pinarello deploying their FlatBack profile for the down and seat tubes as well as the seat post. FlatBack is their way of calling attention to their truncated aero profiles, which cut off the trailing edge because the shaping has been widened. This removal of trailing edge material both saves weight and improves compliance. The aero continues with the aero head tube and shaping of the fork legs.
And you get a longer fork rake, 47mm as well. These all contribute to a more stable ride that allows for frame flex to absorb the bumps without losing efficiency due to lateral flex. As the GAN line is designed for people who don’t have the flexibility of WorldTour riders, there is more stack and less reach than you’ll find on a Dogma. As this is an endurance bike, you’ll find a higher head tube than on the other GANs.
Cable routing is internal for both aerodynamics and cleanliness. It’s Pinarello’s Think2 system, meaning you can switch to electronic shifting as well, though you’ll want to pick up Pinarello’s accessory battery mount which fits inside the seat post. The final touch on aero is the stem, spacers, and seatpost are all shaped to move through the wind.
As mentioned at the top, the bike is set up with disc brakes. The brake mounts are designed for rotors up to 160mm in diameter. The fork has a flat-mount system for the front caliper. The rear triangle has Pinarello’s RAD System for mounting the rear brake caliper. It’s a lightweight, secure means to fix the caliper to the stays without bulking the chainstay. By keeping the stay thinner, the ride is closer to that of a bike with conventional rim brakes.
Keeping the lateral rigidity high as well as keeping things secure and simple are thru-axles, both front and rear. 100x12mm in front and 142x12mm in back. More secure mounting, potentially faster wheel changes.
The GAN K Disk also boasts many of the cool design extras of the Dogmas. Tapered 1 1/8” to 1 ½” steered. The bottom bracket is the reliable Italian threaded standard—easy for servicing.
The Pinarello GAN K Disk can take on the rough roads with style, and the aero shaping gives you an edge any time you shift into the big ring.
